Story of Toey: Trans youth, the welfare & country development

Responsibility: Illustrator, layout designer, campaigner
Writer: Panod Srinual
Editor: Phat

A picture book telling the coming-of-age story of “Toey”, a transgirl from Isan (Northeastern Thailand), the poorest region of the country. The book is a journey of learning about her body, gender, identity, sexuality, and transitioning process: the necessary welfare for many trans who suffer from gender dysphoria while going through class struggle and sexual discrimination simultaneously.

This picture book is one of the 7 shortlisted campaigns mentored and funded by “YouthWel Hackathon 2021” by “People's Network for the Welfare State”' and “SYSI: Society of Young Social Innovators”. The agenda is to spread knowledge about transgender and LGBT+ that has never been officially addressed in any Thai coursebook, aiming for an equal and inclusive society. It targets kids from ages over 10 to adults.
